Bags to be delivered for food driveThe National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive -- America's largest single day of giving -- will be Saturday, May 10. For the third consecutive year, Sheena's Marketplace has donated 6,000 grocery bags for every resident in the Village of Romeo, Bruce and Ray townships.
The grocery bags were prepared for delivery with individual postcards stapled to each bag by the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan 30452, Boy Scouts Troop 87, Romeo High School S.E.R.V.E. and parents.
Postal carriers will be delivering the donated bags to residents this week, allowing the community to participate.
"Our community continues to open its heart, expressing their concern for all who are in need," Postmaster Alex Stubbs said. "Just leave a non-perishable food donation in a bag by your mailbox on Saturday, May 10, and the postal carrier will do the rest."
Last year, the Romeo Post Office collected more than 800 bags of food from the community.
