Nature group to build boardwalkThe Michigan Nature Association (MNA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the study of natural history, conservation education and protection of unique, natural areas in Michigan, has acquired more than 160 nature sanctuaries throughout the state since 1952.
The Wilcox Warnes Nature Sanctuary in Shelby Township is one of the many natural areas that MNA takes pride in preserving. MNA will build a new boardwalk through the floodplain forest. The new boardwalk will allow visitors to enjoy the sanctuary without damaging the habitat.
In preparation of the boardwalk, a volunteer day will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21.
The sanctuary is located on Schoenherr Road just south of 26 Mile Road.
