fireworks inspections by KIMBERLY SCHERER
Washington Township firefighters will now administer fire inspections for fireworks following an opportunity from the State of Michigan.Observer Special Writer During a Jan. 9 Board of Trustees meeting, Supervisor Dan O'Leary said the State has offered towns the option to perform their own commercial fire work inspections. This does not apply to residential fireworks. Each inspection costs about $800 and he said there's usually about three a year, so it would bring in some revenue for the department. "It's not anything great, but it's nice to have," he said. Liability will not be an issue because the township has governmental immunity. "The fire marshal is obviously grossly overqualified to do this work," O'Leary said. The board voted unanimously to take over the commercial firework inspections from the state. |
