Secretary Joe Fortuna and Trustee Gus Demas were not present for the June 26 special meeting.
The district decided on providing Chromebooks to its grades sixth to 12 students and iPads for students in grades K through fifth.
Mark Nelson, technology director, said the district is waiting to hear whether Apple will announce a new iPad 5 to see if they'll purchase the new one or possibly get older iPads at a discount.
"If the iPad 5 is announced sometime soon it would influence our decision on the student devices," Nelson said.
Regardless, the board approved of purchasing 330 iPads for teachers at a cost of $579 each for a total of $191,070. The district will need about 2,600 iPads for students.
The district is ordering 3,356 Lenovo ThinkPad X131e Chromebooks for teachers and students. This will cost $389 per device for a total of $1.3 million. Nelson said the district is applying through the 22i grant, which may save about $50 per device.
