Wash Twp man arrested
for injuring 2-year-old
by CHRIS GRAYA Washington Township man has been arrested and charged with child abuse after injuring a 2-year-old boy by shaking him.
Observer Staff Writer
The Macomb County Sheriff's Office reports that Ronald A. Dimambro, 26, of Washington Township is being charged with first-degree child abuse, a felony punishable with a life sentence in prison.
Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said a 911 call came in at 5:23 p.m. on Aug. 21 from the 8500 block of Grand Oaks Court. The caller, Dimambro, stated the baby boy was having trouble breathing and was unresponsive. He told 911 dispatch that he thought the child was having an asthma attack.
The Washington Township Fire Department was dispatched to the scene, immediately transporting the baby to the Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township. He was evaluated and transferred to the Children's Hospital in Detroit.
Medical personnel told the sheriff's office that the child suffered severe head trauma consistent with "shaken baby syndrome." As of Aug. 23, the child was reported to be in critical condition.
Detectives with the sheriff's office discovered the child was left in the care of Dimambro, the mother's new boyfriend, after questioning him. The sheriff's office states he admitted to shaking the child.
Dimambro was arraigned on Aug. 23 at the 42-1 District Court, receiving a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
