Boys' track team takes 13
of 17 to beat Warren 108-29

Girls' varsity team
beats Mott 104-33

      The Romeo High School track teams played their MAC White Division opener against Warren Mott on Thursday, April 23. The boys' team racked up 13 victories in the 17 events and easily outpaced the Marauders by a final score of 108-29.
       "We had some pretty solid performances, especially in the throws and the distance events," Coach Lew Page said. "Our senior leadership and overall depth are going to make this a tough team to beat this season. I'm optimistic that we're only going to get stronger as the year progresses, and hopefully we'll challenge for the league championship."
       Top performers for the boys in the dual meet were Nathan Fraeyman leaping 20'5" in the long jump, Andy Stebbins throwing 54'7" in the shot put, Ben Brown spinning a throw of 155 feet in the discus, Christian Pletta sprinting to victory in the 100 with a time of 11.29 seconds and also winning the 200 in 23.09 seconds. Fraeyman ran to first in the 400 with a 52.67 time, Nathan Saliga paced the field with a time of 1:59.9 in the 800 run, Brad Vincent took the 1600 run with a time of 4:42 and Nick Jackson blew everyone away in the 3200 run with a time of 9:57.
       All four Romeo relay teams also won. The 3200 relay of Steve Saliga, Evan Simpson, Tony Vultaggio and N. Saliga ran a time of 8:42. The 800 relay team of Ja'Lon Moorer, Marcus Balmaceda, Fraeyman and Pletta sprinted to a time of 1:34.9 and the 400 relay team of Moorer, Balmaceda, Pletta and Brown ran a 45.2 for second place. Finishing the meet was the 1600 relay team of S. Saliga, N. Saliga, Bobby Gintner and Fraeymen, who cruised with a time of 3:44.
       Athletes finishing in second place include Luke Humphrey, shot put; Ben Sobanski, discus; Logan Fracalossi, pole vault; Nick Bobek, 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate hurdles; Moorer, 100 dash; Joey Gerow, 1600 run; S. Saliga, 400 dash; Simpson, 800 run; Balmaceda, 200 dash; and Vincent, 3200 run.
       Third place finishers include Kyle Maxwell, long jump, shot put and 110 high hurdles; James Ruth, discus; David Pusdesris, high jump; Kory Lohrmann, 1600 run; Gintner, 400 dash; Taylor Brynaert, 300 hurdles; Vultaggio, 800 run and Gerow, 3200 run.
       The girls beat Mott 104-33, with 10 girls earning their varsity letter in this meet alone. The team swept two events, the high jump and 100 hurdles, and won all four of the relays. In 13 out of 17 events, the girls took first place.

       800 meter relay, 1st, Flinn, Krawiecki, Sarah Kort, Marisa Balmaceda; 1600 meter, Propst, 2nd, Cassidy Pawlitz, 3rd; 400 meter relay, 1st, Flinn, Kort, Balmaceda, Krawiecki; 400 meter dash, Mets, 2nd, Loyson, 3rd; 300 hurdles, C. Novak, 1st, DeMil, 2nd; 800 meter run, Morsches, 2nd, Loyson, 3rd; 200 meter dash, Kort, 1st, Balmaceda, 3rd; 3200 meter, Propst, 1st, Pawlitz, 2nd; and 1600 meter relay, 1st, Flinn, C. Novak, Mets, Kort.
