The Romeo High School junior varsity baseball team got its season under way Tuesday, March 27, at Eisenhower High school. The team lost to the Eagles, even with solid pitching from Jake Kulczycki and Dalton Dondero. Cooper Laurain scored for the Bulldog's lone run in the fourth inning.On Thursday, March 29, the team hosted the St. Clair Saints. Tom Schneider, Fred Nucci and Paul Reiter toed the mound for the home team. Romeo lost 11-2 in seven innings. Mitch Purpura led the offense with a single and a double. Purpura and Jason Sammut each had an RBI. Rasmuss Shovorg and Purpura scored for the Bulldogs. Over spring break, the Bulldogs played a double header against the Utica Chieftains Saturday, April 7. Nucci started game one, which the Bulldogs won 6-4. Reiter threw four no-hit innings in relief of Nucci to earn the win. In game two, Schneider threw for 5-2/3 innings, allowing one run on six hits. Sammut came on to get the last out. The Bulldogs won game two, 7-2. Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by two freshmen who were brought up to fill a few vacancies in the roster due to spring break. Noah Ganfield delivered a big 2-RBI single in game one and Travis Reichenbach was two-for-three with a run scored and two RBIs in game two. Sheldon Henige also contributed two RBIs for the day. Dominic Olley, Nick Hepner and Schneider each knocked in a run. Sammut led the offense, going four-for-five on the day with three RBIs. During the week of April 10, the squad lost 10-2 to Chippewa Valley, beat warren Woods Tower in a tough home game and beat Lamphere 11-1 to wrap up the week with a 4-3 record. On April 18, the junior varsity squad lost to Warren Mott to bring the record to 4-4. |
