In its third year, the Romeo 2 Richmond Half Marathon is changing the starting line to get the entire half marathon on the Macomb Orchard Trail.to start at Trailside Park The event, which takes place on Sept. 16, will now start at the new Romeo Trailside Park on 32 Mile Road west of the M-53 bypass. The event also includes a 5K Run/Walk in Richmond. Having the run completely on the Macomb Orchard Trail has been a goal of race coordinators and participants. That can now happen after the completion of parks and bridges along the trail. Participants can now run over the M-53 bridge and various trestle bridges where in prior years they to be routed around certain areas on the trail. "The new route will be very scenic and enjoyable for all participants," said John Crumm, race coordinator. Hanson's Running, who manages the timing for the race, will do a timing mat start and timing mat finish. Even though there will be a larger group at the beginning, no one will be punished for being in the back since each individual's time would start when they crossed the timing mat. Runners will be given timing clips that they attach to their shoes, which will then be programmed with the timing mats. Times will be available immediately at the finish line. Interested participants can pre-register online for the event up until Sept. 14. Registration after that will be available at the Registration Package Pick Up/Healthy For You Expo on Saturday, Sept. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Romeo Community Center and race day after 6:30 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk will begin at 9 a.m., near downtown Richmond and end up on the trail at the park. Participants for both races receive technical shirts and race bags. Commemorative medals will go to the first 400 half marathon finishers. Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers for both races. Race organizers are still looking for volunteers and for businesses interested in supporting the race. More than 100 volunteers are needed to put on the race. For more information or to participate in one of the races visit romeo2richmondrace.com. |
