Volleyball team goes on
11-0 run to tip Tars

by RICK DESOTELL
Observer Sports Writer
Trailing by eight points, 22-14, in Game 4 against Anchor Bay the Romeo High varsity volleyball team went on an 11-0 run to win the game and extend the match and eventually won to nip the Tars 24-26, 25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 15-12 in five games in the MAC White division opener for both schools.
Led by junior Karlie Kelly (19 kills), freshman Gia Milano (21 kills) and junior Jodie Bosheers (7 kills), the Bulldogs (9-8) were able to take down Anchor Bay which fell to 13-7 on the year overall.
"Sophomore setter Lauren Korth did a terrific job, as did junior Ali Bellas, who led the defense tonight with her passing and contagious spirit," said Romeo Coach Stacy Williams. "We have been playing tough teams all preseason to prepare us for our league, which is why I was a little surprised by the slow start. We struggled to come out of the gate strong, however, once we found our confidence, mental toughness and determination is what got us the win tonight."
The Tars were led by Morgan Byrge (11 service points, 39 digs, nine kills, four blocks) and Kendall Stoll (10 kills, 60 digs, 17 service points).
"Looking ahead, we need to keep our errors down and put the pressure on the other team,'' said Williams. "We are strong at the net with our attacking and blocking, but we need to come out aggressively. We have the defense and offense to be a strong competitor and I look forward to many exciting matches this season."
