Girl bowlers improveThe Romeo High School varsity girls' bowling team improved its record to 6-1 after winning its match with Port Huron Northern 23-7. The Bulldogs bowled one of their best Baker games of the year with a 209 and took a 6-4 lead heading into match play on Wednesday, Jan. 23.

In the first match game, the girls pulled away with a strong finish in the 10th frame as Victoria Paquette struck out from the eighth frame and was supported by the rest of the team for a solid finish.
In the second game match, the girls made adjustments to the lanes and managed to pull ahead in the middle of the game to stay. Co-captain Stephanie Seefried led the girls with a 193-161 (354) and won both of her match points. Also winning both match points was Co-captain Kaitlin Lowran with 179-154 (333). Winning one match point each was Shana Torkelson with 134, Paquette with 193, and Co-captain Kayla Rziemkowski with 182.
The varsity boys had some nice performances in their 26-4 win over Port Huron Northern, to improve their record to 6-1. They won both Baker games and were 10-0 heading into match play. In the first game, the team had some great individual performances and won by a large margin. In the second game, the team as a whole bowled better and came from behind, erasing a 60-pin deficit in the seventh frame to win by 30 with a very strong finish.
Alex Finn led with 267-213 (480) and won both match points. Also winning both match points was Joseph Seefried with 229-236 (465) and Dylan Stokes with 214-204 (418). Co-captains Andrew Nelson and Kirk Lightcap worked hard throughout the match and helped the team to victory, but could not win a match point. Patrick Brunkey came in off the bench and gave the team a nice lift, helping win the second match with a 198.
The junior varsity boys won 27-3 over Port Huron Northern. They bowled solid in the Baker portion and headed into the match games with a 10-0 lead. In game one, the Bulldogs started strong and kept making good shots throughout the day, taking a big lead. In game two, Romeo continued bowling solid and won the game. Leading was Brendan Leahy with 237-177 (412), winning both of his match points. Also winning both match points was Jake Peyerk 196-215 (411) and Logan Schult, 139-161 (308). Alex Marinkovski won a match point and Blake Sparks had the highest spare shooting percentage on the day.
