Varsity softball team
wins 16 of 17 games
by RICK DESOTELLWith MHSAA district play starting in two weeks, now is the time to get hot, and the Romeo High varsity softball team is doing just that.

The team has won 16 of the last 17 games played. The Lady Bulldogs have two games remaining this week against Lapeer West and Eisenhower before hosting districts starting May 28.
Romeo 10, St. Clair 0:
In game one, Monday, May 13, at Romeo, Kayla Noch (two RBIs) had two hits, including a solo home run to start the third inning and Erin Barg (four RBIs) belted a three-run home run to pace the Lady Bulldogs in the opener. Winning pitcher Taylor Weaver allowed just two hits, walked two and struck out six in five innings and Briana Becker hit a two-run single in the second for Romeo.
Romeo 2, St. Clair 1:
In the second game on Monday, Weaver allowed one earned run on four hits, walked three and struck out nine, and Danni Szajna hit a two-run homer in the fifth that drove in Weaver, who had doubled to lead off the inning. Left fielder Brooke Meyers made the defensive play of the day when she caught a line drive in the sixth and doubled off a runner to end the Saints rally. With the wins, Romeo finishes the MAC Red season with an 8-2 record, one game behind first place finisher Sterling Heights Stevenson.
Romeo 1, Imlay City 0:
In game one at Imlay City, on Thursday, May 16, Weaver allowed no runs on two hits and struck out 12 to earn the win in a non-league game.
The Lady Bulldogs scored their lone run in the sixth when with one out Geordin Craun had a base hit, went to third when Morgan Gardner followed with a single and scored when Noch singled.
Imlay City 3, Romeo 2:
In game two at Imlay City, the Spartans broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Meyers had one RBI with a solo homerun to lead off the third inning.
Romeo 9, L'Anse Creuse 0:
In game one on Saturday, Barg had three hits including a two run home run in the second inning and Weaver tossed a one hitter and struck out 15 to lead Romeo.
Meyers and Szajna each had two RBIs and Weaver and Gardner (three hits) had one RBI apiece.
Romeo 11, Armada 1:
On Saturday, in game two, Szajna had three hits including a two- run home run in the first inning and had three RBI and Meyers also hit a first inning two run home run in the first to lead the Lady Bulldogs.
Gardner had three hits in four at bats and had one RBI; Nica Puglise had two hits including a bases clearing double for three RBIs, Christina Figurski had two hits and scored a run and Noch and Weaver each had one RBI.
Weaver allowed one run on six hits, walked one and struck out four in four innings for the win.
Romeo 15, Berkley 0: (four innings)
Saturday, in the third game of the day, Craun tossed a four inning no-hitter to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a non-league win over the Bears.
Gardner (4-for-4 including two doubles and two RBIs) and Weaver (2-for-2 with three RBIs) led the Romeo offense, which banged out 16 hits.
Craun had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two as did Meyers; Kimiko Hinatsu, Barg and Figurski each had one hit and one RBI and Noch had two hits and one RBI and one stolen base for Romeo who are now 23-7 overall.
