by Michalle HendersonOn Saturday, Nov. 9, at Central Michigan University, any senior was welcome to run in the qualifier for Mid-East Cross Country Championships. Each runner had to enter the event as an unattached runner.
The event took place on the disc golf course at CMU. The course was one of the most difficult courses to run, having several large hills. Billy Mills, the 1964 Olympic Gold Medalist started the race and signed autographs.
The top 12 advanced as the Michigan representatives at the 27th Annual Mid-East Meet of Champions. The event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Kettering Recreation Park located in Kettering, Ohio. The State teams of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio will compete at this event.
Boys' Team Michigan will consist of Dan Sims, Alec Toreki, Alex McCormick, Chase Barnett, Calum Ahmed, Justin Kiprotich, Daniel Kroth, Costa Willets, Zach Hardway, Trevor Holoway, Dietrich Hittner and Justin Starr.
Toreki was the senior captain of the Romeo High School cross country team this season. He finished second in the qualifications with a time of 16:24.3.
Honorable placing by senior captain of the Romeo girls' team was Alicia Arnold, who placed 25th with (21:20.9).
