SAC music events slated
for 25th and 27th in Jan.
The Starkweather Arts Center will continue its Sunday Concert Series and Open Mic Night during January.
The Sunday concert will take place on Jan. 27 beginning at 6 p.m. Open Mic Night will be on Friday, Jan. 25, beginning at 7 p.m.
The concert series will have a double-billing this month with Jack Deater and Candace Sosa entertaining the audience. Deater has been a fixture in the local music scene as a loyal regular at Starkweather's Open Mic Night. His musical reach spans popular music from the '50s to the present.
Sosa, who at 17 years old is a singer, songwriter and guitarist, has produced her first EP and released her first music video. She switched from piano to guitar at the age of 11. Her music is acoustic pop-rock with a blues influence.
Future musical events include folk and bluegrass by Behind The Times on Feb. 17 and gospel, soul and swing by the female a cappella quartet, Lorelei, on March 24.
Admission to the Starkweather concert series is $6, $4 for members.
Open Mic Night admission is $4, $2 for members and is always held on the fourth Friday of the month. It is in its fourth year of providing novice and professional performers the opportunity to practice their craft in front of an appreciative and supportive audience.
Variety is usually the norm as music of all styles are played as well as an occasional storyteller, poet and even dancer showing up to entertain the crowd.
Proceeds from Starkweather's events go to the non-profit Starkweather Society to help sustain Starkweather as a center for the arts in the Village of Romeo. The Starkweather Arts Center is located at 219 N. Main St. in downtown Romeo. Call (586) 752 5700 or visit www.starkweatherarts .com
