Avant Garde show looking for
entries; new venue is chosen
A Beautiful Me will be hosting its 3rd annual signature fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 10.
The Avant Garde Hair Show (AGHS) is announcing a call for entries for all hairstylists with a Michigan cosmetologist license or cosmetology students.
The one-of-a-kind red carpet event will feature amateur models showcasing the talent and creative side of hairstylists with unconventional hair designs. This exclusive event and fundraiser will be held at Zuccaro's Banquet Center in Chesterfield. Doors open at 3 p.m., with a full dinner at 3:30 p.m. prior to the hair show.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the stylists for technical detail and popular vote.
"We wanted to create a hair show that was realistic for Michigan stylists to participate in<as they rarely get to showcase their creativity in this extreme way, at a reasonable entry fee," said AGHS creator Veronica Danks Lozen. "Last year the demand by both participants and attendees tripled from the first year which caused us to change venues to accommodate the growth for 2013 and future years."
During the event's second year in 2012, stylists, models, and attendees traveled from seven counties in Michigan to be a part of this family-friendly, fun event (Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Wayne, and Washtenaw counties).
"Our amateur female models were of all ages, body sizes, and ethnicity<celebrating everyone's individual beauty," said Lozon.
Hairstylists can download a registration form at www.ABMe.us/fundraising.html. Those with questions about entering the event can contact Lozen at (586) 894-2013 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Event sponsorship is available by contacting karen@ABMe.us. All proceeds from this event will benefit the young ladies served through A Beautiful Me and their original, interactive workshops to foster self-esteem.
Since 2009, over 1,500 young ladies have participated in A Beautiful Me workshops within Michigan and Internationally. Workshops provide confidence-building activities and tools, while using an outcome-based evaluation.
