Committee formed to review
Washington Sign Ordinance

      Washington officials are considering amending the township's sign ordinance.
       At the July 15 meeting, Washington Township board members voted to form a Sign Ordinance Review Committee. The ad-hoc committee is charged with starting the process of revising the township's current Sign Ordinance.
       Committee members include: Trustees Art Grimes and Jim Richardson; Planning Consultant Brian Wilson; Les Whitcomb of Washington Township-based Whitcomb Sign Company; and a member of the township's Planning Commission.
       "We have an obligation to keep Washington Township beautiful," said Supervisor Dan O'Leary. "We want to ensure in these difficult times that our local businesses find Washington Township a successful place to operate."
       The committee will make a recommendation to the Board as to whether the ordinance should be amended.
       In other business, township officials:
       • Set Aug. 22 as a Hazardous Waste Collection Day. Household hazardous waste will be collected from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Washington Township Hall. Township officials also agreed to contribute $2,000 to the Macomb County Health Department to host and fund the event for Washington Township.
       • Awarded the contract for Engineering consulting for Washington Township to Giffels and Webster Engineering of Washington Township.
       • Reappointed Susan Badalucco and Michael Pohlod to both serve two-year terms on the Zoning Board of Appeals; reappointed Michael Pohlod to serve on the Library Board and appointed Dave Keown, township building official, as the Noxious Weed Enforcer.
       • Named Clerk Kathy Bosheers, Treasurer Linda Verellen and O'Leary to serve on the township's Bid Proposal Review Committee for the length of their term.
