RCS college and career
nights begin tonight by CHRIS GRAY
Romeo students have a slew of opportunities to decide how their destinies will be shaped in the coming months.Observer Staff Writer Students and parents can attend four upcoming career-oriented events in the following two months, ranging from college nights to the chance to speak with law enforcement officials. All events will be held at the Romeo Engineering and Technology Center and run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The first event will be an opportunity to hear about career and technical education (CTE) programs. Set for tonight, Feb. 3, students and parents can discuss how their curriculum will meet graduation requirements. "I'm just pleased we have so many opportunities for parents and students to see the programs in our district, and also opportunities for the future," said Superintendent Nancy Campbell. "We want students to know the options that are available to them, including when they leave Romeo Community Schools." On Feb. 17, students and parents can attend the Career Choices career fair. More than 60 professionals will be on hand to discuss job opportunities and potential workforce needs. On March 16, students and parents can participate in College Night, where more than 65 universities, colleges, trade schools and military officials will be in attendance. Hailing from both in-state and out-of-state locations, students will have a variety of institutions to investigate for post-secondary options. "A lot of parents start saving for their child's education at infancy," she said. "We want to have a place for our students where they can come to one place and see what is available to them." She said she would like to get the whole district involved and turn it into a day instead of a night event, such as having people wear shirts showing college colors or what career they would like. Lastly, on March 27, the RETC will once again host Careers in Law and Criminal Justice Day. Set to take place between 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., students and their parents can speak with officials ranging from the FBI, the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and others. Students from the RETC's culinary arts program will provide breakfast for the session. Questions can be directed to the RETC main office at (586) 752-0245. |
