Wash Twp board to run
for re-election in 2012

by CHRIS GRAY
Observer Staff Writer
The entire Washington Township Board of Trustees will run for re-election in 2012.
With the exception of treasurer, six members of the current board ran as a group calling themselves the "Washington Home Team" in 2008, and were all elected the same year.
Supervisor Dan O'Leary will run unopposed in the August primary. O'Leary has lived in Washington since 2003, having worked at DTE Energy before resigning upon taking office. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Wayne State University with a concentration in accounting.
Clerk Kathy Bosheers will also run unopposed in the August primary. She has lived in Washington for nearly 20 years, working for 23 years in the manufacturing and automotive industry. She has a degree in local government administration from Central Michigan University and certification from the U.S. Army Management and Engineering College.
Treasurer Linda Verellen is a lifelong resident of Washington, and will have served as treasurer for 28 years as of November. She has a bachelor's degree from Oakland University in education, having resigned from teaching upon taking office.
Trustee Art Grimes has lived in Washington for more than 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army and formerly worked with a local energy company as well as being a former Washington Township firefighter.
Trustee Abby Jacobson has lived in Washington her whole life, and is the sixth generation co-owner of Westview Orchards and Cider Mill. Prior to being a trustee, she served on the township's Planning Commission.
Trustee Lisa Rapp, a long-time resident of Washington, has ties in the local business community with Rapp's Orchards and Rapp's Concrete as well as being active with the 4-H Club.
Trustee Jim Richardson is a lifelong resident of Washington, having worked in the automotive industry for 42 years. He graduated from General Motors Institute with a concentration in business.
A total of six other candidates have filed to compete against the incumbents. One candidate has filed for treasurer, while the remaining candidates will vie for a trustee position.
