Four of five Bruce Twp
officials run for re-election

by CHRIS GRAY
Observer Staff Writer
Four of the five incumbents in Bruce Township will seek re-election in the 2012 race.
Out of the dozen candidates that have filed to be on the August primary ballot in Bruce Township Board of Trustees, the current supervisor, clerk, treasurer and one trustee have thrown their names into the ring.
Supervisor Jim Tignanelli served as a Planning Commission member and as a trustee before taking office in 2008. He is a 16-year resident of Bruce and has served as president of the Police Officers Association of Michigan for 15 years.
Clerk Susan Brockmann is a 20-year resident of Bruce, working for more than 20 years in accounting, human resource and management, three of which were in the township offices before taking office in 2008.
Treasurer Deborah Obrecht has served as treasurer since 1988, and has lived in the Romeo area since 1957. She has a master's degree in business administration and level II assessing certification.
Trustee Paul Okoniewski was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Ron Walker as of April 2011. Okoniewski has lived in Bruce since 1986 and has been a member of the Planning Commission since 1999. He works for General Motors and has a bachelor's and master's degree in information management, both from Walsh College.
Eight other candidates have entered their names for the August primary. Two have filed for supervisor, three for clerk, one for treasurer and two for trustee.
