gains two new members by CHRIS GRAY
The Romeo Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will lose a long-time volunteer, but gain two new members.Observer Staff Writer At the June 18 Village Board of Trustees meeting, Village President Mike Lee announced he wouldn't be re-appointing DDA Chairperson Christine Malzahn to the DDA board. Taking her place as well as filling the ninth spot on the board are Merrick Maris and Lisa Hall. Lee also re-appointed Vice-chairperson Randy Seidel and Board Member Jason Arnott. The Village Board of Trustees agreed to the appointments with a 5-1 vote, with Trustee Mike Cregar dissenting. Trustee Margaret Feldhus was not present. Malzahn expressed her disappointment in not being re-appointed, saying she has never deviated from promoting downtown and the Romeo Downtown Blueprint document. "That's what I do for 50 hours a week is focus on my business and the businesses of my neighbors trying to benefit the downtown area," she said. Lee, who serves as the DDA liaison and DDA secretary, said his decision was based on taking the appointed spot Malzahn filled in a different direction. "It wasn't anything reflecting on the location and where we're going with the DDA, but my plan to re-appoint you wasn't going to happen," he said. Seidel voiced his discontent with village trustees deciding to not re-appoint Malzahn. "You guys are just rolling with it?" he said. Although board members agreed with the appointments, Trustees Matt Edward and Bob Hart expressed their support for Malzahn's contributions. "I think she's been a passionate volunteer for the DDA for a long time," Edwards said. |
