County board formsThe Macomb County Board of Commissioners has approved eight newly-formed committees for the 2013-14 term.

Six of the committees will meet in the weeks prior to each month's full board. They are:
Finance (committee of the whole), government operations (committee of the whole), economic development, health and community services, infrastructure, justice & public safety. An audit committee will meet as needed, and a rules committee is currently working to establish meeting rules for the board. There will also be additional full board meetings to insure items can be considered and responded to in a timely manner.
"We will be moving forward with strong and knowledgeable leadership and membership on each of these committees," said Board of Commissioners Chair David Flynn. "Each chair was carefully chosen because of the depth of knowledge and expertise that he/she brings to the board."
"Our committees were also structured to best address areas we have identified as key issues during the first two years under our re-structured county government," he added. "I believe we can function more efficiently within these committees."
Committee leadership is as follows:
Finance<Fred Miller, chair; Toni Moceri, vice chair (committee responsibilities: county budget, equalization, finance, human resources/labor relations, risk management, purchasing policies, retirement, treasurer, contracts)
Government Operations<Kathy Tocco, chair; David Flynn, vice chair (Committee responsibilities: resolutions, boards & commissions appointments, ethics, codification of ordinances/resolutions, BoC office operations, independent counsel, corporation counsel, rules, clerk/register of deeds, executive office).
Economic Development<Robert Mijac, chair; Jim Carabelli, vice chair (committee responsibilities: Planning and Economic Development Department, MI Works/Workforce Development, regional affairs).
Health and Community Services<Toni Moceri, chair; Michael Boyle, vice chair (committee responsibilities: Community Services Agency, DHS, Martha T. Berry Medical Facility, Veterans Services, Community Mental Health, Health Department, Prosecutor's Environmental Unit, Senior Services, MSU Extension).
Justice & Public Safety<Kathy D. Vosburg, chair; Bob Smith, vice chair (committee responsibilities: Juvenile Justice Center, emergency management, Sheriff's Office, Circuit Court, District Court, Probate Court, Friend of the Court, Prosecuting Attorney, Probation, Community Corrections).
Infrastructure<Jim Carabelli, chair; Bob Smith, vice chair (committee responsibilities: facilities and operations, information technology, parks & recreation, Department of Roads, Public Works, Solid Waste Planning Committee).
Audit<Joe Sabatini, chair; Veronica Klinefelt, vice chair (committee responsibilities: board duties under Section 8.3 of the Macomb County Charter)
Rules<Kathy Tocco, chair; Don Brown, vice chair (committee responsibilities: determine rules of operation for the board).
