Chamber breakfast
covers health care reform

      With over 20,000 pages of federal rules and regulations for health care reforms, it's no wonder people have so many questions about the subject.
       The Greater Romeo-Washington Chamber of Commerce aims to clear up some of the confusion with its State of the Community and Health Care Reform breakfast on March 26.
       The event will be held 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Creek Center Banquet Center in Armada.
       President Barrack Obama's health care reform laws<also known as Obamacare<aims to make health insurance more affordable with thousands of pages of reforms.
       Much like how health care is experiencing changes, the chamber has revised the format of its annual State of the Community event. Kelley Stephens, executive director, said the chamber wanted to try a different approach in light of the health care reforms.
       "Health care is such a big topic for business owners, so we wanted to hold an educational event in hopes of helping them," Stephens said.
       In the past, leaders from the local area were invited to give a statement about the strengths and future plans regarding their communities.
       While they'll still have the opportunity to do so, the chamber has invited two guest speakers to talk about health care reform as the main focus of the breakfast.
       The first is Michael Embry, RHU Region 3 vice-president. He is scheduled to speak about the reform and what it means to businesses and individuals.
       The second guest is Barbara Rossmann, president and CEO of Henry Ford Macomb Hospitals, who will touch upon health care reform from the hospital's point of view. Attendees will have a chance to pose inquiries after the presentations.
       "There is an information overload on health care reform topics, so hopefully this will clear up some questions," Stephens said.
       The event time itself has changed from previous years as well, moving from a luncheon to a breakfast. Stephens said the chamber is hoping to determine whether morning or afternoon events work best for local businesses.
       Breakfast will be served at the beginning of the program by Pamela's Catering. Tickets are $15 for chamber members and $20 for non-members.
