Village to applyVillage trustees are hoping grant money will pay for applying to receive that grant money.
for SAW grant
The Village of Romeo Board of Trustees voted 6-0 on Sept. 16 to apply for up to $2 million from a Stormwater, Asset management and Wastewater (SAW) grant so long as its consulting engineers accept 10 percent of the application fee.
The village agreed to pay $800 for Hubbell, Roth and Clark (HRC) to apply for a grant that would pay for an asset management plan. The plan is required by the state in order for the village to receive a permit to run the wastewater treatment plant.
Trustees asked Keith McCormak of HRC to see if his company would accept $800 of an $8,000 fee for applying on behalf of the village. The village is hoping then to use grant money to pay for the remaining $7,200 of HRC's fee.
A total of $2 million is available for each community that applies, with a 10 percent local match for the first million and 25 percent for the second million. Grant applications are due Dec. 2.
