Troopers find Ray Twp
man dead after standoff
by CHRIS GRAYA Ray Township man was found dead by troopers after he barricaded himself in his home for five hours.
Observer Staff Writer
Following a standoff on Oct. 7, the Michigan State Police (MSP) discovered a man with a single gunshot wound inside a home on 29 Mile Road.
Lt. Mike Shaw with the MSP said a call came in around 10:44 a.m. about a barricaded man that was possibly suicidal. Troopers arrived on scene and spoke with the man's wife, learning he had firearms in the home.
"We made contact with the female homeowner, and learned the husband had threatened to harm himself," Shaw said.
Troopers called in the emergency support team, including negotiators, and attempted to make contact with the man using a loudspeaker from an armored vehicle. Shaw said flash-bang grenades were used to gain the man's attention but yielded no results.
With permission from the wife, the MSP deployed a robot into the home and located the deceased man inside around 4:15 p.m.
Shaw said the case is currently under investigation by the metro post field detectives and are awaiting the results of an autopsy before deciding to send it to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office.
