BRFD replaces
hydraulic tools

The Bruce-Romeo Fire Department is updating life-saving equipment that was 35 years old.
On Jan. 15, the Board of Trustees approved of the fire department spending $17,000 to purchase hydraulic motor vehicle extraction equipment.
Chief Ken Staelgraeve said the equipment, known as the Jaws of Life, would've cost $37,000 brand new, but the department found a used set traded in by other departments.
He said the new equipment is lighter and more powerful than the old tools. The old equipment will be kept as a back-up.
The $17,000 includes $2,000 to standardize the cufflinks on all the tools to make usage more efficient.
