O'Leary named chair ofDan O'Leary, supervisor of Washington Township, has been named Chairperson of the Transportation Coordinating Council of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG).
In making the appointment, SEMCOG Chair Kathy Vosburg, Macomb County Commissioner, noted O'Leary's involvement in the regional government organization especially with transportation issues. "As Chair of the Transportation Advisory Council, Dan successfully led the organization through the challenging process of adopting the 2040 long-range transportation plan," she said.
The Transportation Coordinating Council (TCC) works to expand links between transportation projects and economic development, environment, workforce, education. This work includes monitoring and implementing the long-range transportation plan through the transportation improvement program and recommending transportation projects and amendments. This work will be guided by established performance measures for achieving regional outcomes.
O'Leary has been supervisor of Washington Township (population 24,328, SEMCOG 2013 estimate) since 2008. His day-to-day township duties include chairing the seven-member Washington Township Board of Trustees, as well as management of many township departments including fire and ambulance, water and sewer, collective bargaining, and law enforcement.
