BRFD purchases new ambulance

The Bruce-Romeo Fire Department will purchase a new ambulance to replace road-worn models.
Fire Chief Ken Staelgraeve received unanimous support from the Bruce Township Board of Trustees on Aug. 20 to spend $168,968 on a 2014 Braun Chief XL ambulance. The purchase includes a cot and stair chair and is expected to arrive in the next few weeks.
Staelgraeve said the department will shift its two front-line ambulances that have 75,000 miles each into reserve. This means they will not be the first out the door to respond to an emergency.
The department's 2001 ambulance has 180,000 miles and the 2004 model has 124,000 miles. Both will be sold.
