Fundraisers set to benefit Relay For Life
by MICHELLE TANGUAY
Several fundraisers are being planned for the Romeo Area Relay For Life, which is set for Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, at Barnabo Field.Observer News Editor Organizers of the event are compiling a cookbook featuring the "favorite, tried and true" recipes of area residents. The hardbound book is called Romeo Area Relay For Life Cooking For A Cure. "I want everybody in the Romeo area to submit a recipe," said Michele Boulton of Bruce Township, vice chairperson of the relay and a member of Team Cribar. "This is going to be a community cookbook." Boulton is working on the cookbook with Janet Parenteau, another member of Team Cribar. "It (the cookbook) was her idea," Boulton said. "I couldn't do it without her." The two have already collected 205 recipes. "We're shooting for at least 350," Boulton said. The deadline to submit recipes is Feb. 15. Those who wish to submit can do so by going to www.morriscookbooks.com On the right side of the page, click on typensave. The contributor is the name of the person submitting the recipe. The login is romeoarearelay while the password is k8n4g. The cookbook is expected to be available in March. Those interested in pre-ordering a copy can do so by calling Boulton at (586) 495-9696 or by e-mailing her at Michele.Boulton@sbcglobal.net. The price is $15. All teams participating in the relay can sell the cookbook, Boulton said. "This should be an awesome fundraiser," she said. In addition to the cookbook, Boulton and Parenteau are members of Team Cribar that will be participating in the relay. The team has two events planned for February that will benefit the relay. First, a Euchre Party will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Community Center on Morton Street. Registration is at 6 p.m. and euchre begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per person and includes prizes, pop and snacks. Euchre experience is not required. Then on Saturday, Feb. 24, a Stampin' Up Card Making fundraiser will be held at the Community Center. Time is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature 10 cards/projects, a light luncheon and door prizes. Participants will receive a free stamp. The deadline to register is Feb. 15 in order to allow organizers time to pre-cut the card kits. This is Boulton's first year as vice-chairperson of the relay and her second year as a member of Team Cribar. A breast cancer survivor herself, she said it was actually friend Debbie Majchrzak's struggle with cancer that inspired her to get involved. Majchrzak, is a two-year cancer survivor and the chairperson of the relay. When she asked for help, Boulton was more than willing to lend a hand. "It's the most rewarding thing I've ever been involved with," she said. Boulton said 10 teams have already signed up for this year's relay. "Our goal is for 30 teams," she said. "We're trying to get the word out." ‹‹‹‹‹‹‹‹ |
