Octoberfest in Washington

The Washington Lions Club held its newest fundraiser, Octoberfest, on Sept. 20 at its banquet center on Van Dyke. The club provides funds for Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester Hills, Samaritan House, the local Boys and Girls Club, and also buys eye glass for less fortunate individuals. Above, performers from the Sterling Heights Carpathia Club grouped together after it performed several German dances for the audience. Below left, Benjamin Thomas, old time Michigan lumberjack and teller of tall tales, from Sheepshank Sam History Program, showed Austin, 7, left, and Noah, right, the proper safety and technique to saw the log during the event. Below right, Westview Apple Orchard served up a delicious German dessert made from apples.
