Basketball program players honored at annual ceremony

by RICK DESOTELL
Observer Sports Writer
Family and friends of the Romeo High basketball program gathered in celebration of a season of hard work and dedication Thursday, March 10.
There were no championships to celebrate for the varsity, but with having just three seniors on a team full of young talent and a junior varsity that did win a title, the future looks bright.
"Potentially we could be very good next year,'' said Romeo Coach Dale Teller, whose team finished with an 11-11 record. "We will have eight returning letterman and a good bunch of junior varsity kids fighting for roster spots and playing time. We need to work on our team defense during the summer, come together as a unit and it could be a team to reckon with next year.''
For the junior varsity it was a different story, going 15-5 overall and 11-1 in the MAC Red, good enough for first place.
"It was a hard working group of kids,'' Romeo Junior Varsity Coach Clyde Cushingberry said. "We ran a lot of different defenses and the kids did a nice job making changes on the fly. We would start the game with one defense and if it didn't work we'd make changes until we found something that did and the kids were a big part of that.''
