BOYS AND GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE YEAR
Romeo High School's Drew Cushingberry, left, and Lindsey Hernden, right, pulled off a rare double achievement when each was selected County Player of the Year at the Macomb Daily's 2014 basketball awards dinner. It is the first time in the history of the award that the same school had both the boys and girls Players of the Year in the same season. Cushingberry, a senior, led the Bulldogs to the MAC Red league title, averaging 17 point and 10 rebounds per game. His post-season honors included being named MAC Red MVP, All-League and All-County first team, Detroit Free Press and Detroit News All-East first team, Detroit News Class A All-State third team and Detroit Free Press Class A All-State fourth team. Cushingberry also won the 2013 AYBT Nationals Dunk Contest. Hernden, a senior who has signed to play in college at Madonna University, averaged 16 points and led the Bulldogs to second place in the MAC Red. She was selected All-League and All-County first team, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press All-East first team, Detroit Free Press All-State sixth team, Detroit News All-State honorable mention, and Basketball Coaches of Michigan All-State.
